Fervour & Longing is the culmination of a three-year period in which I regularly photographed a group of young people in rural west Wales with a large-format camera. Fascinated by the ubiquity of mass urban culture - even in this remote area - the final selection of images explores the gestures and postures of youth, and both the mimicry and sincerity involved in 'posing' for a photographic portrait.
Fervour & Longing exhibited at:
RCA Gallery (2004, London); Hooper Gallery (2004, London); Sarah Myerscough Fine Art (2005, London); Jack Shainman Gallery (2005, New York) and Gallery 44 (2005, Toronto); and became part of the collections at the Hooper Gallery, the Great Eastern Hotel, and numerous private collections in Canada, the USA and the UK.
Fervour & Longing was nominated for the New British Photography Award (2006), and was featured in the Guardian's Photography Supplement.
